Service members married to other service members are no longer automatically enrolled in the Family Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance program, Pentagon officials said. They must now opt into the coverage. The change was effective Jan. 2, and to date affects about 4,500 service members, said Coast Guard Cmdr. Kristen Martin, who heads the Defense Department's SGLI policy office.
By December, officers will be rated under a new evaluation system -- one that is designed to both strengthen rater accountability and reflect current Army leadership doctrine. The new system will affect officers in all branches and all components of the Army, said Maj. Gen. Rick Mustion, commander, Army Human Resources Command. Additionally, he said the new Officer Evaluation Report, or OER, system will be preceded by deployment of mobile training teams Army-wide to help officers become accustomed to the new system.
U.S. Army Human Resources Command hosted a few of its Colombian army counterparts during a three-day visit to Fort Knox to discuss career management, promotions, schools and board procedures. Maj. Gen. Richard P. Mustion, the HRC commanding general, leads a discussion of human-resources initiatives with Brig. Gen. Jairo Salguero Casas (left), Col. Carlos Ivan Morejo Ojeda (fourth from left), and Lt. Col. Maria Cristina Barrios Jimenez along with escorts from U.S. Army South and HRC.
The U.S. Army Human Resources Command can trace its lineage to several organizations who together fulfilled the personnel services needs of Soldiers. Our predecessor, the United States Army Personnel Center (MILPERCEN), was formed in 1973 when several activities in the nation's capital merged. MILPERCEN centralized personnel management operations for officers and enlisted Soldiers. In 2005, HRC was designated under the defense base closure and realignment commission recommendation to move HRC and its elements in Alexandria, Va.; Indianapolis, Ind. and St. Louis, Mo. to a new facility at Fort Knox, Ky.
